Now Offering Commercial Truck Driving!

We've always been known for our programs in the allied and natural health fields but after months of reviewing coursework, we're proud to announce that we now officially offer training to prepare you to to take the CDL-A exam to become a Commercial Truck Driver. This program is 160 hours and will prepare you for both the written and practical exams to take the CDL-A exam in North Carolina.

According to the Department of Labor, "As the economy grows, the demand for goods will increase, and more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving."

We're also really serious about placement! Prior to being accepted into our program, applicants to Gwinnett College's CDL program must meet the following criteria:

  • You must furnish a copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • You must complete an application for admission.
  • You must have a personal interview with a College Staffmember to discuss the truck driving program in depth and take a tour of the campus.
  • You must complete a background and driver's license record check.

What Skills Will You Learn?

This program consists of Class A Truck Driver Training. The program provides training on how to operate Tractor-Trailers and includes:

  • Safety regulations (including DOT 380-397 and certificate for entry level drivers)

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
CDL 100 Class A Tractor Trailer I for CDL- This course will prepare students for the minimum requirements for the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam in North Carolina. This course will center on the skills needed to become a Commercial Truck Driver.

CDL 200 Class A Tractor Trailer II for CDL - This course includes pre-trip Vehicle Inspection for the Basic Vehicle Control Skills Test. Students learn: vehicle inspection, maintenance and the needs for maintenance planning. Students are taught: safety importance, visual search, backing and driving the truck, speed importance, spacing for large equipment. Students will have skills training to focus on: basic trucking skills, straight-line backing, alley docking, serpentine driving and parallel parking.

CDL 300 Class A Tractor Trailer III for CDL - This course will continue from CDL 100 and CDL 200. Students will complete 20 hours of on-road driving and 40 hours of observation to be prepared for the Commercial Driver's License Licensure exam.
